I have a 10 minute walk behind my house to the Black River, that I have heard has great Small Mouth fishing. I have never fished for bass. I was wondering If I could get some info on what to use when to fish.
I looked around the internet, but I think the best way is talking to people who fish for them regularly.

I hear top water baits work well for them but idk i dont fish for them.  I usually catch them accidently fishing walleyes with crankbaits

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important but because so many other concerns of man are equally unimportant and not nearly as much fun.

Is it hunting season yet?

Well i don't fish smallies on the river but when i go up north to the boundary waters i fish them often. i like to use top water baits like the rapala skitter pop or the skitter prop. i also like in deeper water wacky rigging a senko worm.

Even if you've been fishing for three hours and haven't gotten anything except poison ivy and sunburn, you're still better off than the worm.

Got a great smallie lake 7 miles from home.(Green Lake) We use spinnerbaits,A jig and trailor,Mr twister spinners with double tails,Most cranks 4 inches and smaller. If there are crayfish in the waters that will be their favorite food mimmic it.My alltime favorite for any river casting is a white 1/4 oz jig with a 2 inch white tail.it works on lakes also,Dont sit, move and cover water, either casting, float fishing and trolling.I dont troll much to much fuel and I grew up trolling got tired of it.I like casting keeps me occupied.
