Moorhead police have arrested 2 teenagers after a deer was shot in Moorhead city limits. Police say tips from the public led to the arrests of 19-year old Adam Jackson and 19-year old Shayne Minnick.
Police say Jackson shot a deer on Sunday morning without a license and in city limits. He then went to buy a license, and later in the day shot another deer in North Moorhead.
The 2 face a number of charges. The DNR has seized a vehicle, rifle, shotgun, deer meat, and camera that had pictures of the 2 with the illegally taken game.

CO Jeff Johanson (Osakis) reports the firearms deer season is off to a busy start with the first deer hunter contacted being arrested for hunting while intoxicated and hunting deer over bait

The officers responded to a call from a nursing home. Officials there said they have a feeder outside the home's picture window so residents of the home can watch deer come in and eat. They stated a hunter had set up a ground blind near the feeder/window and was hunting there. The hunter was escorted off the property by the COs and two police officers

Officer Shoutz spoke to one group of hunters who had eight untagged deer hanging at their camp. They told her, "This is how we always do it. We never tag our deer

Heaton and Officer Speldrich stopped a vehicle that was being operated by an individual whose license was canceled inimical to public safety. The individual had a coffee mug filled with whiskey and was on his way home from an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting

Crazy people, I'm glad they are rounding these idiots up. How do you think it's OK to shoot in the city limits? Or to setup by a senior home and lob bullets at deer.

Seems to me they have not thought about the out come before they do the stupid acts that they do or did.  Now they should have time to think about there actions and reflect on why they did the things they did.  So glad they caught them, but there are still a lot of people like them out there and they make me  cussing  as they ruin it for the rest of us.  cussing

CO Darin Fagerman (Grand Marais) continues to write expensive citations and seize expensive guns for hunting deer over bait. It is pretty sad when the rifle that has been handed down for generations is lost forever due to some unethical hunting. Grandpa might not be too happy about that either. One fellow encountered has been cited three times by the CO for hunting over bait in the last six years including the last two. iamwithstupid iamwithstupid iamwithstupid

CO Marty Stage (Ely) spent nearly all available time running around chasing violators illegally baiting deer. The practice has certainly not gone away or apparently even slowed.  It’s possible that some baits are more sophisticated and well hidden. The only thing that hasn’t changed is the sad face on the violator when they realize they will lose their rifle. The common response is:  “they shouldn’t sell that if it isn’t legal.” BangHead BangHead

Earlier in the week CO Wynn finished up reports for an individual who was arrested for pointing his firearm at CO Wynn from a distance of approximately 100 yards. CO’s were on a complaint where a hunter felt that the individual arrested and his companions were intentionally shooting at him. CO’s were able to take the individual into custody without incident. The individual was booked into jail for two days, and was charged with two crimes for carelessly handling his firearm and intentionally pointing it at CO Wynn.  Lesson learned for the weekend: Buy a pair of binoculars instead of using your rifle scope to see what your buddies are doing.

Thats sure a poor excuse for a violation! I'd bet whoever was pointing that rifle was scoping the action NOT intentionally aiming to fire.

I agree with Sparce, sounds to me like a CO looking to make a bust and looking for any excuse to do it....more info is needed before I can say if its a good arrest.....

To me though it will be the COs word vs the arrested and likely the arrested will be guilty....

Not saying it is, but it might be power abuse.....

Not a good idea to ever point a rifle at someone even if you're just checking what's going on. Get a spotting scope or binoculars.

I had to admonish my son-in-law the afternoon before opener one time, because he was using his scope to check out 2 deer on the other end of our field.  The school bus was going by at the time, and I said, they don't know if the gun is loaded or not, they can report somebody aiming at deer before the opener.  I got the binoculars for him.  He just wasn't thinking about what might happen.

At 100 yards it would be pretty hard to tell if someone was aiming directly at you or not
