Hey guys and gals,

I am in the process of moving to isanti and have the rum basically in my back yard. In the past, I never really paid any attention to any type of fishing reports for the rum. Are there any folks that might have any info? Not looking for specifics, just wondering if it's worth fishing

I've never fished it but I know some folks have great luck on the smallmouth. I believe, as Tom said, there are some special regs up there.

Maybe the crappies are fished out!!  I haven't done the Rum since the 70's, but caught some there back then.

Ahhhh! The Rum River! My old stompin' ground's! I grew up west of Cambridge only about a mile away from the Rum River. Which I always headed for as soon as my Mother would let me out of her sight. So many happy day's and time's spent back on the Rum. It really is quite a good fishery if you take the time and trouble to learn it real well. It's known mostly for the smallie fishing. There are plenty walleye's to be had there as well, if you know where to go. Look for the best walleye area's between Cambridge and Princeton. One of the reason's you have an advantage when fishing a river for walleye's is that they are not affected nearly as much as lake's when you have to deal with cold front's. They will often get lockjaw when you fish a lake but in moving water they aren't affected anywhere near as bad. Float trip's were one of my favorite way's to fish the Rum. You need to have a third person to drop you off. First we would leave one vehicle at whatever spot we wanted to come out on at the end of the day. Then we would drive upriver to wherever we had chosen to launch. Your third person driver then drove that vehicle home. Then you have a full day's pleasure of floating and fishing downstream without having to worry about meeting someone at any certain time. Those were the good old day's alright! At the present time I am fortunate enough to live near one of the premier walleye lake's in the whole country! But I still miss thge good ole' Rum! :notworthy:DIRTBALL2 fart

How is the Rum looking this week jethro88? I've heard it's been running high. Is that still the case? I'll be arriving down there on or about Tuesday and I'm supposed to take my nephew's out fishing. I've got my heart set on hitting the Rum. Do you think we will be able to do so? :sunny:DIRTBALL2 bs

I stopped down at the boat launch on Sunday and the levels were at lower spring levels, but the good news is that the water is dropping. With the extended forecast looking good, you should be ok
