Pickelfarmer, I've had this grand illusion of you operating a slick cucumber operation with pickling facilities, a canning factory, etc.

Sorry to let you down Mid-Lake Rock.  Nope, although I do enjoy making Fall pickles, My user name was derived from soft porn.  Sad I know..   laughing4 laughing4 laughing4 laughing4 laughing4

I thought the 57 stood for:

1.  Your prized 57 Chevy.

or

2.  Your affection for Johan Santana.

or

3.  The highest number of girlfriends you've had at one time.    laughing6

My name come from the fact that I spend 98% of my open water fishing season chasing muskies around Minnesota with a few trips to Canada.  I love working mid-lake structure, particularly rock reefs.

Back when I was in my first band, around 1990, we had a wild hair to make a movie. It was a horror movie called "Sandman" and I was the Sandman that came back from the dead and killed everyone. So the name Sandman stuck, I added the ND to the end because I'm from North Dakota and the name Sandman is usually taken on most sites I used. So Sandmannd was born and just use it whenever I sign up somewhere.

LOL, I saw a show on HBO about a guy (and a few gals) that had some pretty good STUFF!!! He was a picklefarmer.. Well I tried to use PICKLEFARMER and it turned out that that name was already used (on another site) so I switched the E and the L around and bingo!!!!! Quetico is a provincial park in Ontario. Its directly across the border from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern MN.

My brother and I had to bail on a BW trip after only 1 night out in the wilderness due to gear issues. We went and base camped in Quetico Provincial Park. It was my last trip right before starting my freshman year at the U of M. He was going to start grad school right after we got back.

Our last full day up there we took the canoe out for a morning trip to try to catch some fish. He doesn't fish at all but loves watching me catch fish. After a few hours of missing fish, bite offs and other issues, I hooked in to a monster. We had gone onto the main part of a large lake. I hooked into this monster right as the wind started kicking us out into the lake. After 15 minutes, I got it up to the boat. It showered my brother quick before disappeared for awhile. White caps were really getting big fast. After another 10 minutes a massive green log surfaced next to me.

Great time to realize I had no pliers, no camera and no measuring tape. I tail grabbed my monster pike and put it into the canoe. Next thing I know my brother starts swearing a blue streak because this beast with its teeth coming out everywhere is making a move toward his bare feet. Its the only time I've ever heard him swear.

I had my utility knife and a our spare paddle. We lined up the fish along the paddle and notched it to get a measurement of the fish. The bait was buried in the fishes mouth so I just cut the line and dumped it back. Later measurement came in at 40.5", head was 8" long.

After that trip, the next time I saw my brother he came to visit me at college and set up my computer. He named it Quetico. Ever since the name Quetico has just stuck with me.

I've only made it back to Quetico Provincial Park once since. Its a place I hope to spend many more days traveling. Its a great wilderness destination for peace, quiet and solitude. It yields some of Canada's best fishing. Its a motorless land of pure magic.

Most of us have seen this on other sites...but since many of us on UMO are new.
Where did you get your username from???

Ude Lake is a small 10 acre lake near Portage Lake by McGregor MN.  My parents and I lived on the lake until '73.
It was named after a hermit that had a shelter there in the early 1900's.
