I have been looking at the Hummingbird 581 i for taking on the ice mainly for the gps portion but then I can use it in the boat for summer with the sonar as well. Anybody know anything about these units? Or can someone direct me to a unit that is GPS/sonar for around $300?

thanks a head of time for any info.

I have used my 522c as well as my HD5 from Lowrance. Great units on the ice. I don't have any experience with the birds, I have always preferred the Lowrance. I would also check at Thorne to see them in action and what fits you the best.
