My, how time flies!  It seems like not very long ago when we opened up our doors for the 2010 season.  Alas - here we are, mid-April, 2011!!  If you are like most people that fish whom I have already spoken with over the phone, you are ready to start fishing.  In fact, chances are - you're already out there!  Well, we're a bit behind last year, but we're ready to start taking orders for leeches and crawlers! 
 
This year is off to a rough start, with a cold spring, our ice is just letting out this week.  Leech traps just started going in on April 12th!  The good news is, we hope to be shipping medium leeches by next week, or April 18th.  As water temps rise, leeches will grow and we'll offer more selection.  However, if you want to be one of the first to get bigger leeches, I'd suggest pre-ordering right now. There are a few articles listed below that talk about some things that have been happening - including info on the issues with our website.  Please read on in this newsletter to discover some exciting plans we have for 2011!  Adding new staff, and a new affiliate program are just a couple cool things on the horizon!

Website Issues

We are on the mend...
Unfortunately, our site was infected with Malware sometime over the winter.  THANK YOU - to the many who called to let me know about the issues!  It meant a great deal.
 
In order to fix the matter, we had to delete the newest version of the site, and install the original 2009 version.  Please be patient over the next two weeks as we make updates, and get a new online store up and running.
 
In the meantime, you can order from our very secure web form that has served us well in the past.  It is straight forward, gets all the information to the right place, and allows you to pay with most major cards, or paypal.  Your choice!

Soon, we will be launching a completely new online store!  It will give us a greater amount of flexibility in serving you - but also gives way to a NEW WAY FOR YOU TO MAKE MONEY!  Our new affiliate program will enable you to refer us to friends, and make money, or get in store credit. 
 
Additionally, we will have a social store, where you can purchase directly from sites like Facebook.  You'll even be able to purchase bait from your MOBILE PHONE!  Isn't technology crazy?
 
When the new store, and new opportunities are available, I will let you know!

New Staff!

A couple of MAJOR things have happened this past year, requiring us to add new staff.
 
First and foremost - you did such a great job of telling your friends about us, that we've grown.  Our volume quadrupled last year!  This alone makes us busy enough to add on a new staff person to help with shipping.  We're proud of all the work that Mom did to manage shipping 800 plus orders last year!  She's hustling pretty darn good for a 66 year old irish gal!  This year, I hope to take some of the pressure off her by getting her some part time help. 
 
We'll also be bringing on one new person (in progress) to handle the phone calls.  Here is why: In October, 2010 my oldest daughter Norah (she's 3 now) was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.  Not only was this a blow to our personal lives - it also tightens the checkbook.  As a result, I have taken a full time position with Russell Associates, a training a consulting firm.  While this puts me in a position that I actually spent time in graduate school for, it does detract from my focus on Jewell Outdoors.  So, I am bringing in help to get us through the busy season!
 
You may hear new voices, or read of new names - but trust that Jewell Outdoors is still a customer service company that just happens to be selling bait.  All you have to do is ask - and you will get to speak with me.  I am here to listen and address issues!  Just don't have as much time to B.S!!
