Took the two girls out yesterday ice fishing for their first time ever. They are 3 and 6 years old and have been bugging me to go out once the ice was safe. So tuesday was that day. I had 8 inches of ice and with an easy walk we struck out for a little bit of fishing.

I really didnt expect them to last long, so made it an adventure of sorts. Stopped at Vados bait and picked up bait and got a really neat "behind the scenes" tour of the bait shop, they got to see and learn all about the different minnows and worms and what they are used for. Left there with a smile on our faces.

I figured the girls wouldnt last long fishing, maybe a half hour. I made sure to pack some snacks and drinks and a few toys so if they got bored they could sit in the tub of the trap and play.

We got to the access and there was no one else there, which was nice to see. Been on a decent crappie bite with some real nices ones mixed in if you do it right, but alot of them are in that 9-10 range.

Boy was I wrong. The sun was well below the trees and the light of the big buddy heater made it tough to keep seeing to remove hooks out of fish, so we called it a night.

Trying to find as many ways possible to keep them interested in the game, so I got a clicker that you click everytime you catch a fish, the clicker ended at 27 or 37 fish for a two hour span.

Taylor was using a pink/white fatboy, sky was using a watermelon colored toad  all being held 8 feet down over 10 feet of water with a Thill Mini Stealth and I attempted to work an Ice jig in pink. When I say attempt it was to the left unhook a fish, turn to the right, unhook another, rebait rebait rebait.

Was pretty cool seeing a normal day on the ice through their eyes. Makes a guy appreciate things. Playing in the minnows, putting feet down the ice holes, etc.

The videos are cheap and crappy, but its both of their's first fish. Ever. So pretty cool!

Great job Chris...love taking the grandkids out that are just about the same age.  One is 5 and really is into tip-up chasing.  The 4 year old just likes to get out and run around the lake.  The 5 year old was over yesterday and saw the tip-ups and asked when are we going fishing.

Awesome Chris, nothing better than taking kids out and getting them on fish. My daughter is 6, we should get the girls together for some fishing.
