Hit Waconia yesterday knowing that there would be a ton of boats but at 10 am when we arrived not a spot in landing and had to park on road.   We were after gills. We found them on beds but not traditional beds and size of these spawning males were minimal compared to last year. We brought twenty home for the fry pan. It was great action for the kids.   We then tried pulling blades but the joy riders bounced us around to much. We were using the underwater camera earlier and saw tons of eyes on the weed lines in multiple spots but bait fish are plentiful and why would a eye chase if he has a free meal two feet away from him. We will be out once the holiday weekend is over and try to spank some bigger gills and eyes.   There is no algae bloom yet and I hope it stays away but water temps are up to 75 degrees. Also make sure that plugs are pulled and hitchhiker weeds are off because the CO's were out in force yesterday.   Unfortunately  they don't know all about the AIS sticker craze yet where no fines can be handed out until 2014.

Sounds like you had a decent outing. Getting the kids on a gills is a great time. I've done the river over the fourth in the past and it gets pretty ridiculous with all the traffic on there. This is a bad weekend to try fishing because there are so many boats buzzing around you.

Yeah on weekends like this non-motorized lakes are the way to go.
