Apparently, this just in from a local eyewitness, there is a rescue underway on Mille Lacs Lake vicinity of Sloppy Joes. An air boat, dnr rig and sheriffs are one the scene. The lake had alot of ice shifting and there were reports of large areas of open water.  A piece of ice separated with a few folks on it. Jerry Brandt's son was one of them. Rescuers are out there. The floating ice floated back and attached itself to the bigger ice. Everyone got off of the floater. Everyone is okay but there is still an ambulance and lots of folks at Brandt's landing -- lots of information on facebook and other forums about this....

Big plus here is everyone got off and everyone is okay.....safety safety safety.....not worth putting your life at risk as well as all the rescue workers trying to save you...

Just not worth heading out if you aren't sure of ice. Great to hear everyone got off that ice for sure. I think I woulda stained my drawers if I was floating on ice like that. Musta been like the Rudolph show.

Ice took a beating from the wind today

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important but because so many other concerns of man are equally unimportant and not nearly as much fun.

Is it hunting season yet?

Ya...some 71 yr old broke through on his 4 wheeler, and the broke through scrambling back to shore.  He was being treated for hypothermia.

It sounded like there were a ton of people heading up there this weekend.

Please play it cautiously and stay in the bays.

Mille Lacs is the dammedst lake I've ever fished! All that broken up ice should give the 612'ers a clue that they shouldn't go out on ice like that! On Mille Lacs, I swear the wind start's out at  an undisclosed spot somewhere in the middle and blow's all 4 direction's at the same time! :headbang:DIRTBALL2 bs
