I fish lakes in the winter time and river in the summer. Hard to get me off the Croix or Sippi in the summer cause of the great walleye fishing.

I know alot of guys like to get out there and mix it up with the Walleyes on opening day and I'm on that same boat,or not. I find that most people like to hit the same place that they were fishing over winter and alot of times that includes taking a boat ride out to the "SPOT" but there is a long lag between ice out and spring fishing opener. I have had some of my best luck hitting the rivers as well as the river outlets and inlets in the early spring. Instead of loading up that boat and hitting the lake like you think should be done. Try pullling on a pair of waders and hitting the shallow waters around your go to lake and fishing around an inlet or outlet. Many times the Walleyes will be hanging around these areas waiting to either go in or out of the river. I have had alot of luck with this and I suggest you try it. I like to cast out a husky jerk Rapala shallow diver or a Rapala V (Vampire floater)  into and along the shore just off of the river. These fish like to swim along the shore line and follow the shore line to the river. So maybe this spring give the boat an extended rest and try a little shore fishing on your lake.
