So on my visit to Glenn this weekend, I drive across this beautiful river running thru town.  Why don't Glenn tell us about the fishing in it???
I would guess here is why....
Because of the shallow depth of the river and the somewhat poor water quality, game fish are not abundant in the Sauk River, Redhorse and sucker are found in most parts of the river. However, in the "Chain of Lakes" area, fishing is very popular with a variety of fish being caught. Panfish, walleye and northern are the most common to anglers in this area. Walleye and northern can also be found where the river enters the Mississippi.
But then redhorse and suckers are betting then catching nothing..and that "Chain of Lakes" is right down the road.  Hmmmmm, is he keeping things to himself??? dontknow dontknow icon_scratch icon_scratch icon_scratch

laughing4 laughing4 laughing4 thats right, i'm keeping that gem all to myself!!!!!!! headbang headbang hello icon_thumleft laughing4 actually the water quality has greatly improved the past 10 years. dont forget about the abundant catfish in the chain along with the newly stocked muskie. this river is fished hard fishing opener for eyes also! the carp also take a liking to the river. the chain is also listed as one of the top 10 bass lakes in minnesota.

my experience with this river? well, let me tell ya! i grew up 1 city block from it and my grandparents lived on it and actually watered there lawn from the river. man did they have an awesome green lawn. and from there did we fish bullheads during the summer months. think we made our parents broke paying an elderly gentlemen to smoke them. it was also fun landing them big ole carp!

in my high school days, myself and a high school buddy that lived on the river by rockville fished it a lot. we even found a hole and plucked 11 eyes out of it. we even set up a spearhouse on it before  G-N-P  was there. we seen some biggins, carp nords and eyes. also was a good duck and goose hunting area. and lets not forget the heron rookery before they bailed out.

after high school, i bought a canoe with my grad money and we canoed this river often. going from richmond to cold spring, then on differnent occasions from cold spring to st cloud. depending on how high the water was took from 2 1/2 hours to as muck as 5-6 hours with a lot of times hitting the bottom. musta been all the  occasion14 in the canoe!

SO ,yes shane, before i knew better i did fish a river once in a while!!!!!!!!! tongue3 tongue3 bootyshake bootyshake laughing4 laughing4 laughing4

One of my favorite outdoor author's, Keith Sutton, once stated that,"A long time ago my soul was charmed by a river mistress!" I knew right away exactly what he meant because I feel the same way. My love affair with the Rum River started a long, long time ago when I was but a callow youth with cheek's of tan. We lived west of Cambridge about a mile away from the Rum. I started hanging out on that river as soon as my Mother dared to let me out of her sight. To this day, it is still one of my favorite fishing hole's! My younger brother used to live in Rockville and when I would go out to visit him I always wondered about the Sauk River. It did look kind of fishy and inviting to me. He and I had always planned on making a trip there but we never did. There is just something special and inviting about any river I see. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's just always wondering what's around the next bend? It was a little disconcerting reading a post by glenn57 that actually made sense! I kept waiting for the punch line! laughing4 laughing4 :laughing4:DIRTBALL2 bs
