Yeah that blue crab mess really hurt them. They didn't get crab, they bailed out on reds and then Freddie quit. Freddie was one the best deckhands on that entire show. They lost huge when he left.

NEVER QUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Millionairs will tell you day in and day out that a quiter will never see the fruits of their labors if they quit mid way through anything.... These kids just don't get it. If they run out of money they need to find more!!!!!!!!!!! It takes money to make money and I have no ill feeling towards the new Captain. He did what he felt he had to do and he obviously knew the history with these two kids..
Phil was a hard ass to the kids out front but a push over at the end of each conflict. The new captain knew that and wouldn't budge on how he wanted to run the boat. Thumbs up to him if you ask me.

Yep, Freddy was the heart and soul of that boat after Phil... Now they got nothing but a couple of pot heads running things.....

I think that both of those boys are idiots...Jake is a druggie for life...and Josh is borderline retarded. The only thing saving them from be swallowed by life was their old man.

My thoughts 100% you sum it up very well backsmasher23. Both those boys are proving that they have no business being on the bearing sea without Phil.. Its pretty sad if you ask me...Not a brain between the two.

If you watched after the catch last night they did sort of explain what was going on there.  Yes quitting is never a good option but in business you only have so much money and it can only go so far.  Some times you just have to invest it in a better return.

People say they fish to relax.  I relax just a little bit more everytime I drive that hook home.

Yep, Jeff is right. You can't stick tons of money into a sinking ship. They just weren't pulling the crab and butting heads with the captain. Seems on After The Catch Jake just didn't want to listen to anybody and just wanted to but heads about it. I get the disrespect of his dad, that was uncalled for. But it seems even Sig was saying you need to listen to the captain.

I fully understand why they bailed on blue crab. They would have lost everything if they had kept pushing that. But they should have gone for reds to with the hope of doing better.

The only bad thing I see was Derrick telling the guys "their father did them a great disservice". I think Phil knew exactly what he was doing. He knew (and told them) that both those kids needed to be mature deckhands for a number of years before moving up the ladder. I figure the other owners of that boat also would have known whether to fish or park the boat much better than those kids too. I think their "mutiny" was a childish little game. Capt. Derrick fished with Phil for many years before those punks could spell "boat". He should have taken 'em both to the woodshed on that After the Catch episode, and I don't think Phil would have blamed him.  The captain is the captain,...whether he's a cream puff or a hard a$$.
