The 2010 UMO Open Water Fishing Challenge is here!!

Open Water Fishing Challenge is open from May 1st 2010 through October 31st 2010

Rules For Online Fishing Challenges

1.   PARTICIPATION AND ELIGIBILITY. Participation is open to anyone 18 years of age or older in the United States and Canada. You must be a member of Upper Midwest Outdoors to enter the challenges. Kids under 18 can enter their pictures with the help of their parents.
2.   SPORTSMANSHIP. All contestants are required to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, and conservation. Any use of drugs, participation in criminal activities, or other conduct reflecting unfavorably upon our efforts to promote safety, sportsmanship, fair competition, and/or compliance with tournament rules are grounds for immediate disqualification and return of any prizes awarded.
3.   PERMITTED FISHING METHODS. All fish must be caught via hook and line. The selection of baits is up to the discretion of the participant.
4.   OPEN VESSEL. The use of any boat or vessel is permitted. Shore fishing, floats and wade fishing are also permitted.
5.   MEASURING DEVICES. All fish measurements must use a measuring device. This can include, but is not limited to the metal measuring devices, stickers on your boat for measuring or a standard tape measure.
6.   ONLINE CHECK IN. Anglers will use the online system to enter their fish catches. Anglers may update and upgrade their fish as they catch better fish throughout the challenge by entering their catches online. There is no need to edit a catch to upgrade it -- simply enter the new catch. Anglers may not intentionally hold back catches until the end of a tournament - fish should be checked in within 48 hours of the catch or as soon as the angler has access to a computer for online check-in. The time of check-in is used to break ties, and is updated whenever a catch is entered or edited.
7.  Control Card. The use of the UMO Control Card is to be put in the photos for verification your catch was made during the official contest time. We will also accept wearing a UMO shirt or hat. You are free to post photos without the card and they will be considered for the contest as well. Not using the control card may lead to disputes. Disputes as to if the photo with no control card is allowed in the contest will be handled by the administrators who have final say.
8.   CATCH-PHOTO-RELEASE SCORING. Online events use catch-photo-release scoring methods in a variety of formats as described below. Participants may only use digital cameras for recording scoring fish. Photos should not be resized, edited, or cropped prior to upload. However, if you need to resize to fit on the site, that is fine. Any digital modification or manipulation of a fish picture is grounds for disqualification. (Because we use Catch-Photo-Release or CPR for our challenges does not mean you can't keep your legal fish. That's up to you)
9.   PROTEST. All protests must be made in email or PM to a UMO Administrator during the challenge for which the fish in question is caught.
11.  RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE. A waiver, release of liability, and covenant not to sue are part of the online registration. It is required that all contestants take responsibility for themselves while participating in event activities.
12.  PHOTO RELEASE. Scoring photos remain the sole ownership of Upper Midwest Outdoors to be used at their discretion. Contestants grant Upper Midwest Outdoors and the sponsors the unconditional right to use their name, voice, photographic likeness and biographical information in connection with Upper Midwest Outdoors challenges, production, promotion, and/or articles and press releases, and shall not be entitled to receive any royalties or other compensation in connection with such use.
13.  RULE CHANGES. Rules interpretation is exclusively left to the UMO Administrators. The decisions of the UMO Administrators are final in all matters and are not subject to appeal.

The 2010 UMO Open Water Challenge Official Control Card
Please print this out and carry this with you.

Use this board to put photos of your catch in. Any and all fish may be entered. Feel free to also post them in other sections of the site for comments on them. This board should be used for photos of fish.

Well,...I guess we'll put up a fish and get this ball rolling. No control card,..... I been away from home. tongue3
My buddy rode up from KC for a visit and we hit the ponds for a couple days. The wind was 20-30 both days, and we had to hug the banks all day. Caught 67 LM bass, all smaller than this one. Average size was 15",....the big mama's just wouldn't come out and play! The bite was primarily on chartruese spinnerbaits and 10" Junebug power worms, with a couple on cranks.

I guess we’ll do a little upgrading today. I had a great day on the bass water today,…which makes up for the big walleye I lost the other night….kinda. Today was the opposite of last weeks "day of dinks". The fish were bigger, more agressive, and hit on just about everything. I caught fish on 3",4", and 6" swimbaits, several different spinnerbaits, several plastic colors, along with assorted cranks and jerkbaits. I would say the water has only warmed a couple degrees in a week, but something really triggered the bite!
Here'sa few pictures for the contest.
I need to get some kind of measuring device mounted in the boat. I usually fish alone and it's hard to get a good measurement, get the control pictures using the timer on the camera, plus get the fish released quickly.

First one is a 19"r
.

sunny We’ll upgrade that one too!
This one went 20+” with the mouth closed and tail pinched.

Here's another 19.....

Just got a bunch of northerns, didn't have my card and the biggest I got was 5'6' 128 lb Swanni.

Ok-- caught myself when I was trying to get a stinkin northern off my line.. right in the finger with a treble hook on the shad. Should have taken a pic for you, but it wasn't something I thought of until after I got it out.  Needle nose couldn't get it cut cuz it was too embedded in my finger so we hunted down another boat, who had a sideedge cutter and then used a fingernail clipper to pull the hook out.  Man the driver of the boat turned two shades of green and then a funny shade of white when I was yankin on the hook  puke puke  His only comment was that I had a lot more balls than he did... Between me and hubby we got that sucker yanked out so we could keep fishing and MAYBE catch something besides a snake.   (didn't tho' crybaby2 crybaby2)

31 inch northern (6.3 pounds) I caught today on Waconia lake... missed out on a bigger one that broke the swivel (maybe about 4-5 inches bigger then this one).  We also had two smaller northerns follow the lure up to the boat and back off.  All in all not a bad day of northern fishing

It's the settings on Photobucket or whatever site you host them on. Choose to resize them. I usually size them to 640x480

Caught this baby today while I was wacky riggin a worm for bass.  In no way was I intentially fishing for muskies.  I know 'ski season doesn't open for another 2 days and I would never intentially fish for a species that was out of season.

It measured 33", I forgot about the control card because I was just a little bit excited and I wanted to get it back in the water as soon as i could.

Sorry its bad quality, I keep telling myself to put my regular camera in the boat but for some reason it never makes it in icon_scratch icon_scratch good thing I have a cell phone that takes half way decent pics.

Also caught a few bass and my girlfriend caught her share of the potato chip sunnies

Went back for another run today. There's been more commons up shallow each day this week. I think after this weeks storms, (or during it) they're going to pop,...and if I can hit that day,....the blood will be flowing! laughing11. Two years ago this week we hit the spawn and drilled 120 carp this size in one day. It's GREAT!

I'll toss in my Son's 1lb Bluegill.  No control card on the trip.  It was caught in June at Bass Lake near Grand Rapids.
