Well,...paddlefish snagging season opened today, and I was on the river all day.
Got the control card shirt all slimed up and had some fun! I dunno if I'll be able to walk tomorrow, but it'll be a day to remember. Snagged about 25 paddlefish and a few assorted others.
Here's a longnose gar that got in my way

Missouri river paddlefish!

I got a couple bonus bigheads which put up a helluva fight in the fast current,

And last but not least,...the behemoth shad that fought the good fight but finally gave in to the 50lb. test and the 2/0 snagginn' hook!

That looks awesome Whisker!! So is it really a Paddlefish SNAGGING season or is that what you just call it? In Minnesota I'm pretty sure all Snagging of fish is illegal. Looks like A Lot of fun for sure. You always post some great pictures.   icon_thumleft icon_thumleft icon_thumleft Nice Job!!

Yes it's an actual 30 day snagging season. You have to apply for a tag, then they have a "drawing" and issue so many tags per year. So many people apply that it's usually 3 years between tags. What beats me up so bad is it's a slot limit only thing so the spawners get put back. You measure from fork in tail to eyeball. All fish between 35 and 45 inches go back, which is most of them. You either go home with a dink and call it good or hold out for a biggun. I let go about 25 slot fish today, and tonight I feel like I've been beat by a bouncer,....a big mean bouncer!
The one in my pic was an inch shy of an over slot keeper (44") so it went back. I'll head back out after the weekend warriors get done!

Seen a few people catch paddle fish and saw a lot of them in the Missouri when I lived in Bismarck. They have to be a blast to catch.

Thanks Glenn. I know that this is by no means the biggest fish here but I sure was proud of the little guy today. He did a good job getting this one in. Thing of it is he fought this one like it was a 30 inch walleye!!! He had a good time and that's all that matters.

There was a top three and the votes from the staff came close. The winner by 1 vote is Whisker and his Paddle Fish. Whisker, I'll get a hold of you for your prizes.
